Thanks to everyone who joined today! We're glad to have you here. It'll take a bit for us to ramp up but thanks for being our first peeps here.
^ well that was a bit more friendly than I expected.
Welcome @2nd_astronaut

Welcome to Knockology! I hope you find it useful and enjoyable.
Hey @Thanakorn Maleesut! Thanks for joining,
Looking forward to your rOtring collection.
Hi Ray! Welcome, glad to see you here! You'll get the hang of Slack pretty quickly. We are a forgiving bunch.
@Kelvin Pang (drifand) has joined the channel
@Kelvin Pang (drifand) good morning, and in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight! 👋
Hey everyone! I’d like to welcome @Kelvin Pang (drifand) to the Knockology group. Kelvin is a collector out of Singapore and I’m willing to bet he has us all beat on most pieces acquired in a single year. I know @Ray made a big impact in his collecting and I’m betting he’ll return that favor and get us hooked on some different pieces as well.
Welcome welcome welcome @Kelvin Pang (drifand). Super glad you’re here. We’re just getting started with this group. Right now our most popular channel is #pentel but we are excited to welcome new members like yourself which such a broad collection.
Enjoy yourself and don’t be shy to post anything, anytime, on any channel.
Welcome @Ron Knapp and @Kelvin Pang (drifand)! This is going to be a great year. I plan on expanding my posts outside of the #pentel channel. Feel free to join in.
Thanks! Will lurk a bit and ease myself into the threads 👍:skintone2:
Happy to expand the conversation and shed light on the coolest vintage pieces!
I went completely nuts in 2021, acquiring over 1300 pencils from all over the globe. I tried to focus on the entire genre, and I had the most fun exploring brands I'd never heard of before, such as Tombow, Newman, Sakura, and Kokuyo.
Before getting into all this, I suppose I'd have considered myself a fan of rOtring and Staedtler,
but the hobby has revealed that Pilot is indeed my personal favorite
Nice, did you just post something on reddit about 2021?
But I don't really get too exclusive here—I have over 100 Pentels and Mitsubishis, too. (I consider Pilot, Pentel, and Mitsubishi to be the big 3 of MPs)
I bought a nice photo box recently, so I'll start revealing the collection on the subreddit in the coming weeks
Probably most psyched about my toolbox, though, which is hard to photogrpah because of where it is in the house
My main requirements were: Complete visibility without touching, no movement when opening/closing drawers, and no pencils touching each other!
I started with a small toolbox, but it only had a capacity of just over 200 pencils
Then I bought a massive Husky from Home Depot, and this thing has a capacity of 1124 pencils
I feel like I should probably stop collecting if I fill this thing up
So complete visibility when opening a drawer? Not complete visibility at all times
My son is just over 1 year old, and if he saw these pencils, I wouldn't have any more pencils 😄
Yeah I have a 20 month old. She saw the collection for the first time the other night
But I def think toolbox drawers with gorilla grip liners are the way to go
I tried a lego solution for arranging the pencils, but you need to put some felt on the legos, or else the pencils slide
lol yeah, wayyyyy too many shiny things for kids to grab
I was thinking pastel drawers since that would look better in our studio.
That's kinda cool and would be a great fit depending on the collection size
(speaking of, if you live in the northeast, you can get some badass flat files for cheap)
I'm gonna upload a couple of lame pics of the toolbox so y'all can get an idea for the scale, one sec

Who are @Heath and @sideKnocks (atxalais) on Reddit?
You got a giant freakin toolbox in your house for pencils!
I will print out these photos and show them to the wife at very strategic times
If I named myself like sideKnocks, I would be DoubleKnocks
The holy grail is a double knock with the reliability of a Pentel 5
Pretty sure Pentel 5s will still be working like champs after a nuclear holocaust
Channels I'd like to see: • Newman • Sakura • Kokuyo • Colleen • Platinum • Ohto • Sailor • Zebra
Channels whose names should be changed: • Uni → Mitsubishi
Surprised @Knocktype11 stills talks to me without a #colleen channel.
*Thread Reply:* Until we have more traffic about these manufacturers flooding the other channels I would recommend that we not add additional channels. Use <#C021XG9ECQ4|other-pencils>. That is what it is for. I would argue that at this point we have too many channels not too few.
Colleen is the undisputed champion of double knocks
I still hate myself for not winning the 13-pencil auction that went off in August or September
once-in-a-lifetime chance to score a huge swath of history
ehhhhhhhhh I might be able to find something. Gonna have to search completed auctions over VPN, but the kids just got home
Welcome @Kiwi-d it is great to have you here.
*Thread Reply:* I haven't used Slack before so bear with me whilst I fumble and stumble about the place for a while
*Thread Reply:* No worries. There is a pinned post in #general that has a link to a quick video on using slack. Post in the right channel, reply in threads, follow Wheaton's law, and everything will be great.
Several of us are in the GMT-5/6 while I am in GMT-8. The other timezones should be starting up now... We are all over the planet.
I have been using a long time and collecting for a while but I have been reading DMP for a long time. I literally have a little lead under my skin (.2mm).
*Thread Reply:* Hi @Kiwi-d, welcome! Yeah I'm in gmt-5.
Hey Michael. Welcome to Knockology! As I mentioned to you, we are a fairly small group of mechanical pencil enthusiasts that use this platform to share our passion. We introduce each other to new products, discuss history, do detective work, trade/sell, etc. We also coordinate some of our efforts in acquiring pieces from foreign auction sites.
This Slack workspace is broken up by channels (topics). Feel free to chime in or start a discussion in any channel. We try to use the threads feature as much as possible when chatting on a particular topic, but we’re not always the best at that.
Not much has been formalized with Knockology and we’re letting it organically take shape. We’re not sure exactly how many members we’ll let in but everyone that's currently here I consider to be “founding members”. You’ll probably recognize some of the members here.
Thanks for joining us, bud. We’re honored to have you here.
@here Please welcome @Clutch Situation to the group. He may just have a YouTube channel you're familiar with. 😉
All I ask is that people limit aggressive comments about my handwriting. 😂
*Thread Reply:* You're safe here. 🕺:skintone2:
Welcome @Clutch Situation! Hopefully you will find this place as informative and fun as we do.
Hi @Clutch Situation, welcome! Love your channel!

@here please welcome Carlos to the group! Carlos has been collecting for 10 years and is currently exiled in Chile. You know him as First-Sail-1386 on Reddit.
Wow @sideKnocks (atxalais) you’ve got the welcome speech down nicely! 😆
*Thread Reply:* You're doing the next one wise guy!
*Thread Reply:* Just like you copy pasted my collection?
*Thread Reply:* I can't copy paste your $700 per pencil collection though.
*Thread Reply:* Private school way too expensive
*Thread Reply:* But how much stuff did you have to buy your wife to make up for it?
*Thread Reply:* Oh you know it had to be at least equal
*Thread Reply:* Speaking of copying your collection, just got these in
*Thread Reply:* ❤️ some of my favorite Orenzs
*Thread Reply:* Other than the Foxy series, are there any other translucent ones?
*Thread Reply:* Don't say that word around here
*Thread Reply:* Those pencils shouldn't exist
*Thread Reply:* It’s the only way you can have a clear red
*Thread Reply:* and burn the packaging
*Thread Reply:* /poll Am I too much?
*Thread Reply:* The fact they shouldn’t exist is why you need a set.
*Thread Reply:* You can tuck them away deep in your sock drawer.
*Thread Reply:* Don't make me pull @Knocktype11 into this
*Thread Reply:* Yup. Dad’s on his way.
Thanks for the invitation. I take this opportunity to ask if anyone knows Elton Qiu's catalogue, where he sells pencils on eBay under the name of saingapuremechanicalpencils, he's also on the Reddit sub but hardly comments. When I spoke with him on ebay, he told me that we could do a deal outside the platform and sent me a link to his catalog (I'm going to post the link here to see if it works). Well, I bought 7 pencils from him once but I wasn't entirely happy with it. He told me that the pencils were new but when I had them I realized that they were not NOS. He has a lot of pencils, most of them are not listed on ebay. The thing is, I want to buy more from him, but I'm not so confident anymore. Does anyone know him?
*Thread Reply:* Don’t know him, but I bought a FC TK-matic from him recently and was happy with it. His prices on eBay are definitely higher than they should be so I’m curious how they look in his catalog.
*Thread Reply:* https://photos.app.goo.gl/mEv36EGHpVPkvy7j9
*Thread Reply:* I've bought from Elton before, as I also live in Singapore. He’s above board and has an amazing stock of his spares. My understanding is he has a business network thru work and managed to get hold of old stock that way.
El catálogo es este https://photos.app.goo.gl/mEv36EGHpVPkvy7j9
*Thread Reply:* @sideKnocks (atxalais), can you tell what kind of filter Elton uses? Feels almost like HDR since the reds are cranked so hard
*Thread Reply:* It's probably not a single filter but tiny adjustments to the levels, vibrance, saturation, and color targeting with HSL
He responds pretty quickly on https://www.carousell.sg/
*Thread Reply:* https://www.carousell.sg/u/singaporemechanicalpencils/
*Thread Reply:* I gotta buy a bunch of stuff from homey
