Here’s my Donald Duck P205. I believe it dates back to the early 70s and may actually be model DP205.

Pentel Sharplet 501 (Q555) I have not seen these in any of the catalogs. Does anyone have any idea when/where they were sold? There is also a Sharplet 500 as well (Q455) which is very similar. I am not collecting Sharplets, they are accumulating in my house though.
Pentel "Nine"
The Pentel "Nine" was an inexpensive early knock-type pencil. It featured an all plastic body and a metal clutch an a reservoir which could hold a single 9.9mm lead. The styling is basic but functional. The colors (Black, Red, Blue, and Yellow) are relatively bright for Pentel's early pencils. These show up on auction sites occasionally but searching for them does not turn up an excessive number of results. There were two generations of this model. The first generation had the old Pentel logo and the second featured the new logo.

Notes: The color codes are not official. Examples of Black, Red, Blue, and Yellow have been recorded, but other colors may have been produced. In the 1970 slip the Nine pencils were listed at 100 Yen which put them at the lowest end of the range. There is no lead sleeve on this model.

I just received this pencil today. It is a P205B Generation 2 pencil (early 70's) that I got from the Netherlands.
Before today, I did not know that the P205B was manufactured before Generation 5 (late 80's), but it appears that it was just not available in the US. Now that I know to look for these, I hope to find more to fill the gap (Gen 3 & 4).
It did not appear on the German 1975 page, so I did not suspect it to exist.
As per the mention of the Pentel 11 by @Jimmy Simpson (Nimrodd) previously. I have been looking at this model recently and found some interesting information. The model number is S305. The very last generation did not even include 11 anywhere on it and had the new logo. Recently an auction on yahoo.jp finished for a pencil which I am not completely sure was a legit Pentel. It is a double-knock Pentel: https://zenmarket.jp/auction.aspx?itemCode=572250555
Has anyone seen this pencil in real life? Do you know the model number? The top metal part is real but the mechanism, grip, tip, and cap look more like a Pilot to my eye.
This is the type of pencil which makes me happy. On first look it is a classic deluxe. But it has some features which made me reevaluate my understanding of this line. It must be from the 60s since it has the old logo. But, this is the only one from this era that I have seen with a gold colored top. All of the other S5x pencils have had silver/grey tops. There is alot of variation there also but that is another topic. The kicker is this pencil uses 0.9mm lead! But wait, it has a big 5 and the word "five" on it. What is going on here? A mismatched lead size and number on the front places it before this was standardized. Some later models of the S59 had gold tops, but not all. Some even had silver tops and a large 9. I know that there was a 0.7mm model produced with a 5 on it also.

Internals of P545 I don't have dates for these pencils. Given the internals and the fact that they are not in any of the 1979 or later catalogs they were likely only made during the early 70s. Thr reservoir clamp on one has some weird additional clamp marks.

This weekend, I picked up some new (to me) pencils from Yahoo Auctions Japan. Of course, they are currently being shipped to a forwarder at this time, so I won't see them until December. I started down a rabbit hole this afternoon involving Pentel. I was looking for an answer that someone asked on another post about 0.2mm pencils. I found this website (http://pentel.blog.jp/) and it's post about the Orenz 0.2mm and it's predecessor.
I then checked out some of the other posts and came across this one (http://pentel.blog.jp/archives/10412223.html) about the Graph 1000. About half-way down, I saw a picture of some Pentels that I did not recognize, the P115, which they said was probably a predecessor to the Graph 1000 grip.
I decided to look at my catalogs to see if I could find this one listed, but all I found were the P105, P125 & P145. I was familiar with the P105, but off-hand, could not picture the P125 or P145, so I looked them up in the catalogs.
The P145 appeared only in 1 catalog that I have a PDF of, the 1997 International catalog on page 91. When I took a look at it, I thought, that is the second generation of P245.
From my other catalogs, I find that the P245 (1st gen) was released in 1979, and also appears in the 1982 catalog.

My next catalog (US 1984) shows the second generation. This one appears in the 1985, 1990-91 & 1994 US catalogs, with the 1990-91 & 1994 catalogs also including the P247, and also giving it the name Bravo.

Looking for other information about the P245, I found this post (https://www.reddit.com/r/mechanicalpencils/comments/9ndszn/pentel_bravo_p245_p247_with_question/) by u/foetusized from 3 years ago, where he asked about the 2mm/4mm tip variation.
I came across what is probably the answer to the question he asked. In the 1984, 1985 & 1990-91 catalogs, these description partially reads "Features a 2mm fixed sleeve." In the 1994 catalog reads "with 4mm fixed sleeve for template work."
The next US catalog I have is the 2000-2001, and the P245 is no longer listed, but in the 1997 Internaional catalog, they list as coming from Taiwan, the P143, P145, P147 & P149, and they look exactly the same.

This is new. For some time in the late 70s to maybe the early 80s Pentel printed a date code on some lead reservoirs. All that I have seen have been 6 digits YYMMDD. Today i found one with only 5 digits: 70717. It does not look like the first or laat number has worn off.
Does anyone have a spare clue about this?

Hmm. There's a PD1065 in the photo which as far as we know came out in 1979. The PD345 came out in 1977 and they immediately claimed it as the first side click pencil. If this photo is indeed from 1975 then they already had a side knock prior to the PD345.

The insides can be swapped with some of the Tradio pens. The "click" of the cap to the main body sometimes isn't quite as tight though.
This is one of my black 345’s. The 6C is clear but not really sure what the other marking is.
Another interesting note, when comparing the loading hole size, the one’s I have with Clic on them, the holes are much smaller than what I’ve seen. Not sure if I captured it here

Ok two transparent blues. One I am fairly certain I bought in the 90’s (right, odd date code, just a 6) and an eBay item (left, date code 5A). So I think they widened the opening sometime in the 90’s and looks to be a great way to indicate 80’s or 90’s.

@sideKnocks (atxalais) I got the Yamauchiya order in, however they ALL have cracks in the eraser area, and the yellows seem to be worse with cracks at the tip area. This is a bummer. The whole reason I bought more was because the first shipment were so nice (except the yellows which had the same cracks). They did send another box though. Let me know if you want me to take any erasers out before I ship them out with your Parafernalia.

The model name starts with PC, followed by a three-digit number, and this number indicates the price, domestic/export and size in that order. The price digit 1 = ¥1500, 2 = ¥2000 and 3 = ¥3000. Also I have to say that even though they're expensive, fromjapan do a great job with packaging.
Slowly making progress on dating some of the Clic family pencils. To get to the date code you have to remove the pocket clip which is far from easy.
The only surprise I've come to at this point is that the Disney series DPD355s are from the late 90s and not the 80s. Also, all PD355s and their cousins are mid to late 90s.
Managed to get hold of a MEC 0.3 mid-late type… 1969 was a great year.
In an effort to identify why the pocket clips on the PD335 Popn’Pops tend to crack, I measured the erasers and pocket clip eraser insert sizes on 10 PD335 Popn’Pops and 10 regular PD335s.
PD335 Popn’Pop • Average eraser insert size: 7.242 mm • Average eraser size: 7.32 mm
Regular PD335 • Average eraser insert size: 7.229 mm • Average eraser size: 7.15 mm
The results show that the dimensions of the pocket clips are identical across both sets. What’s obviously different is the size of the erasers in the Popn’Pops. You can also see in the picture below that the erasers visually look different. Both erasers are Pentel’s hi-polymer greens but there must be something different about the polymer composition that makes the one on the left age differently over time. These erasers are 40 years old and I bet that they have expanded over time. According to Pentel specs, the official size of the eraser is 7.15mm which shows that the erasers found in the Popn'Pops either expanded over time OR they were manufactured a smidge too big to begin with.
Not all of the pocket clips on the Popn’Pops crack and to further investigate why I could run temperate variance tests to see how the erasers and plastic respond to climate changes but I don’t think it’s worth it.
The damn erasers are different and too big. Case closed :)
Here is a picture of the two erasers. I went through a few dozens of examples and every eraser in the Popn’Pop looked like this.
Last week I received 2 "PS513" pencils that I ordered. One is correct, but the other has the "wrong" tip. The photo is (top to bottom) ML5, PS513, PS513 (with "wrong" tip).

This is the tray that my P115A fff yellow came in. My take is that the ‘A’ designation is not for color of the pad but to differentiate the fff (or ‘F Three / エフスリー’ as printed on the tray label) from the previous standard P115. Perhaps the ‘GD’ in yellow circle is the color code (ie for the yellow pads).
If the JIS code can reveal more info, I’m all ears! :-)

Pentel Middle Five Deluxe. I was looking at some pencils in boxes last night. Google translate on the label gave the name but no model number. It is the same size as a ML5 but is about 3-4 grams heavier.
*Thread Reply:* There were three generations (discounting the razzle-dazzle edition which I think differs only in paint on the body. The first version has the dimpled grip and was made in the USA. The second version has the gooey rubber grip and was made in China. The last version has the ribbed grip and was made in Taiwan. On page 61 there are versions 1 and 3 and on page 62 there are version 1 and 2. It is worth noting that the bottom pencils on both pages are RD. The top two on page 62 are not RD. A second major difference is that on the Graph II, the lead reservoir screws into the front (with the larger thread, seen above), and on the PG5, it drops in through the back, and is held in place by the chrome tip."
Long post warning.
Wasn’t expecting it but I got my PD505 yesterday!
I get it unwrapped and find what appear to be stress fractures or deep scratches all along the top half, GAH! I immediately start crying, I mean trying to figure out how extensive the damage is and if it’s really damage at all–please pencil gods! I try to wipe it off with a damp towel but not even dirt is coming off. Oh man, this is so jive.
And then I notice mold lines down the entire length of the body... wha?? How have I never noticed these before in @sideKnocks (atxalais) pictures? Do I have a different version? I go look and sure enough, they’re there but look like reflections! Ok, maybe Pentel formed two separate halves of metal and joined them! Cool... but nope!
Here’s where things get really really interesting.
The scratches/cracks are under the clip and all around it. Half expecting it to fall apart, I take the clip off to get a better view and there it is–a small chunk missing from what appears to be chrome plated black ABS! There’s even a date code of 0H stamped in and it’s a narrow hole, so 1980 or 1990. Injection molded plastic! Duh! The mold lines along the sides are the same mold lines as on the regular PD34x! Are these scratches just chrome plating peeling off? What is going on here?!?
Sidebar: This actually makes so much sense because until now, not having it in my hands, I just couldn’t fathom the manufacturing process they would’ve used to form the body. Especially with the way the clicker has to sit down in and with the top of the body recessed for the clip. I knew it wasn’t machined, but at least thought they were forming it out of a thin metal tube. Now seeing how thick the body walls are and the mold marks, it’s clearly injection molded. This makes sense for a 500yen pencil.
Then I take a magnet and it sticks to it!! WAIT WHAT?!? What kind of plating is this?
I decide to take a razor and try to scape it like I’m scraping paint off glass. At this point I’m totally expecting to scrape plating off but sweet jesus, it’s just some really fine, really tough black substance! HOLY SHIT. The rest is scraping off and it really seems like a steel body the way the razor feels and sounds. The surface even has a brushed finish! It looks and feels amazing!
I’m blown away by this. The fact that Pentel was able to make this seem like a full metal pencil is amazing to me. Clearly they’ve been playing with plastic and metal for a while and I wonder how/if this played into the development of the Orenznero. Also makes me wonder what other pencils are like this... aren’t one half of the Kerry’s supposed to be metal? I don’t have one, but that seems like a large chunk to be solid metal?
Unfortunately I was in such a rush to figure out what was going on, I didn’t get a photo of the black stuff. Doesn’t really matter at this point because the metal plating is so good that this thing is pretty much in mint condition. What a ride!

As you can see in picture 1, there are 2 different threads on the clutch. This confirms that this is a very early 0.3mm, so I am going to file it under the SG33/SV.

Some interesting pencils. The brown* and clear pencils came in the last shipment. Pentel was not the only maker of this style of pencil. The black one is Mitsubishi and the clear one is Caceco. All are .9mm. *This might actually be a dark red. 🤷

Does anyone have any P545 pencils with the any sticker or tag besides the small triangular sticker (like in photo)? In looking at my catalog of photos, this is the only sticker I see on any of them, which means that the latest they were produced was through about 1975. If you do have one, please let me know and send me a photo. Or, if you have one that has any Date Code, probably stamped on the lead reservoir.

*Thread Reply:* Here is the breakdown of the W-Knock. It is very complicated, and I cannot quite figure out how it works. I have a suspicion, but at one point had the pencil extended too far, and had to move a couple of floating pieces from behind the spring (3-finger spring, just in front of the big Brass piece), thus the scratches on the brass ring in front of the silver ring.
Reassembly goes as follows, eraser cap on, then the extendable tip screws onto the clutch. The spring then goes into the black grip, then that slides on and screws into the big Brass piece. Then the outer tip screws on, then the body screws onto the big brass piece.
This has @Heath’s name all over it.

Looking from a distance, there is not a whole lot of difference to see. Close up, you will notice that the original clip as the old-style typed PENTEL running down it, and the later one has the new logo and Japan on it. You can see the a difference in the tips on the first picture, and even better in the second close-up picture. The original tip is a straight cone tip with a small step at the very tip. The later tip looks just like the original P205 2mm tip, but actually has a shallower cavity on the inside. A P205 tip will go on the Scepter just fine, but the Scepter tip will not screw onto the P205 all the way. Another interesting difference is the ferrule on the eraser. I have noticed this in some pictures of other Scepter pencils, but this is the first early generation Scepter I own. There does not appear to be any difference in the internal lead reservoir, as when I set them down side-by-side, I wasn't sure which one went back into which body, until I pulled the eraser cap and checked the ferrule.

I just received Unknown Model 11 the Proto-Scepter Excalibur.
*Thread Reply:* I now have 4 examples of the stamped in Excalibur Crown. Only the Unknown Model 11 has the line version. The two "R10" pens have the outlined version, and so does the Unknown Model 09 (unfortunately, not mine, but from another collector).
*Thread Reply:* In a related posting, here are the three R10 Excalibur pens that I own. Although they look very similar at first glance, the left and middle pens have differences. The one on the left has an unusual lip where the cap posts (pic 3), which makes it not completely post (pic 1). Pencil changed this in the one in the middle. Also if you look at pic 2, the Japan on the cap is different between them with the one on the left being in a smaller serif font and the middle being a larger sans serif font.
Noticed something interesting today. The S19 came in two lengths. One is 136.8mm and the other is 125.2mm long. I noticed that the S15 is shorter before.

*Thread Reply:* Yes. As far as I know, the only difference is the lead indicator ring (which is why I would like to get my hands on a PWP15 to verify).
Above the window on the indicator ring, the PSD5 says Pentel (in the logo script), to the right, it says 0.5, and to the left it says PSD5 above Japan. I do not remember it saying anything on the back.
For the PWP15, above the window it says 0.5, on the right it says Pentel and on the back it says PWP15 above Japan, with nothing on the left of the window.
*Thread Reply:* I ran home at lunch to take care of some stuff, and went ahead and took this picture (before my photo setup got buried, or the pencils put where I can't get to them for a while). I took it apart as far as I can get it. I cannot tell what is holding the main internals inside the body.
