Staedtler

I don't have many Staedtler pencils but these are my favorites. I got the bottom one in the early 90's and it became my daily use pencil for several years. The top one came to me much more recently. There is a newer version of the retro 0.5 which has a round cap instead of a flat one, a longer tip section and a bowed clip. These feature a retractile tip and are nice to use. My least favorite part is the grip section which is not comfortable to use for extended writing sessions.

Clearly I am a sucker for the Retro 0.5 pencils. It is not clear why there is tape on this one. I removed it and have mostly removed the left over tape-goo. That took a half an hour working with rubbing alcohol.

*Thread Reply:* I am trying to have more patience. After a while it landed in the good-enough zone. You don't see alot of these around and hardly any in red from the first generation.

*Thread Reply:* I am not sure that I like many Staedtlers, but these are pretty nice. They are the only ones which I have bought intentionally. It seems that Michaels sells only Staedtler.

I haven't gotten a new piece in the mail in too long. Thinking about grabbing the red Kaweco Special Brass just to scratch the itch. Plus my daily use is the special brass

It's in my top 10 all time, no question

ALthough the LE versions are aluminum, which is annoying

the brass and coated black versions feel superior

Love how the Regulator function is slyly incorporated into this model, and knurled accents will always score points with me

Only thing I don't care for is the sharp ridge between grip and tip section; this pencil was clearly designed to be used with a slide rule

The 95 is overpriced, but it's rare and cool. Glad to have it in the collection

Sometimes the price is a little nutty

REgulator function is fantastic

but there are still good deals out there

and it's got knurling, which I dearly love (unless it's too slippery, which makes me rage)

One of the best things about the 925 limiteds is that the markings DO NOT specify 0.5mm unlike Pentel’s Graph 1000 Limiteds. This leaves a lot of leeway for customisation. In this case I used the body colors as ISO coding and swapped internals from standard 925-25s picked up for cheap in lots.

Loft limited yellow = 0.3 Korea limited titanium grey = 0.5 Coach & Four limited turquoise = 0.7 Coach & Four limited orange = 0.9

And I took some license to use the Korean snow white for 2.0mm.

edit: Names of colors as per original release labels but yeah, the turquoise looks blue to me and the orange is closer to red.

*Thread Reply:* I think I went along with the orangey red for 0.9 because it's pretty close to the color used for the 925-95 0.9mm. After all the effort of swapping parts, especially the nail biting bit of pushing the clips off and on, I don't think I’d redo this with a properly orange edition :D

It is interesting that there are lines on the tip which indicate the lead size. This is a feature I have only seen on Mistubishi pencils. But this is more subtle.
